Electric Light Orchestra
Made a startling albeit pleasant realization tonight... A lot of my music reminds me of
Electric Light Orchestra. I was at Best Buy after work tonight and decided to buy a bunch of CD's. Three of them were ones I already had, either burned or on SACD (which is a fine format worthy of blogging, but I digress), but two of them were ones I'd never heard. Travis' latest album, and an ELO album with the song "Mr. Blue Sky", from the trailer of
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Anyway, I popped it in and was amazed at the chord changes. They were obviously an inspiration to
Grandaddy. I'm listening to it right now, and while there is definitely some cheesiness to the whole thing, one cannot deny the obviously musical talent of their frontman, Jeff Lynne. Some of it also reminds me of Queen. Anyway, for those of you who haven't had the pleasure, check them out. It's worth it and I guarantee at least one of their songs will put a smile on your face. I know it did for me, and lately I can use all the smiles I can get.
I'm looking into buying another keyboard. All I really want is a nice digital piano. Some friends asked why I don't get a real piano, but a real piano is impossible to record, especially in my acoustic-free studio. If it's not out of the headphone jack and straight into my computer's line-in jack, there's gonna be trouble. Man, this ELO is good. For the record, I also picked up "Sea Change" by Beck because I only had the SACD version and I wanted to listen to it in my car and my car has trouble playing burned CD's. Also, "Hail to the Thief" by Radiohead, because I have the limited edition version and I don't want that messed up in my car. Also "Room on Fire" by the Strokes because I only had a burned copy. The Strokes are amazing. One of the only non-keyboard bands I like, but I've said that before. Anyway, enough of this gay banter.
End.
